Max Benbassat, a Burlington native who moved back to the area from New York City to work in his family business, has formed a campaign committee and announced his intentions to run for City Council (at-large).Amanda Lehmert profiles him in the Inside Scoop.
Despite the interesting YouTube videos on his website (viewer discretion advised), Benbassat's platform is serious, including working with our schools and what he describes as "fighting for the working class of Greensboro."
He certainly brings an interesting twist to the election season.

The campy video would be all well and good if his website wasn't equally campy. You say his platform is serious, but so far, all he has put out there are quotes.
If he is really serious, he will soon put out issue statements and detailed plans to solve those issues.
And I'm sure he will, in time. We all had our first time running for office, me included.
Listen, compared to the developer/Simkins bunch running City Hall right now, I will be profiling a lot of newcomers here. And with a couple of notable exceptions, I will not be supporting many incumbents in this upcoming election cycle.
Our city needs to go in a vastly different direction.

With any new venture what is most important to me as a film maker is to be granted creative freedom to make something original. This was no different when long time friend Max Benbassat approached me about doing a series of ads for his City Council Campaign. After watching this year's scare tactic Presidential mudslinging it seemed to be the ripe moment to take a stab at redefining how a campaign ad could work. As you can see Max's 'characateured croonies' do the mudslinging on their own and are in fact... facing their own camp. I was impressed that Max and his Campaign had enough confidence and foresight to see the value in these somewhat avant-garde works. To the unenlightened they may seem to say the least...a bit risky. This alone shows that Max will definitely bring some fresh ideas to the political arena.
